New year’s resolution, are they
reachable?
I read two articles about new year’s resolutions. One of them
was written by the UK government, and the other one was written by Steve Errey.
These two articles made me realize that many people can’t
achieve their new year’s resolutions because their goals are unrealistic and poorly
planned. When you are trying to achieve a goal, it should be something that you
care about. For example, you can’t just decide to learn a new language if you aren’t
really going to useless in your life. Also, you should have a structured plan, divide
it into stages, explain how are you going to reach your goals. Another reason
is that when people wait until new year’s eve to set their goals, so they lose their
motivation by the time of January first is here. I think that if you really want
something, you would try to get it at the same time and not wait until the new
year. If you can wait to change something, then you don’t really care about it
as much.
I’m not really a “new year’s resolutions” type of person because
I believe that if you want to do something - that you’re convinced with- you
should do it quickly and spontaneously. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t
want to change something about myself. One thing that I want to work on is to
start reading more books. I’ve only read 5 books in the past 3 years, which is
something that I’m not proud of. I really want to read more books because I
want to learn how to use my time in a productive and entertaining way at the
same time. Also, I want to learn how books are written in a way that attracts people
into reading and finishing these books.
However, the main reason that I want to read more for is that I want to see how
the authors think, and view the world. I want to see how they explain their
feelings on a piece of paper. Furthermore, I believe that reading books can
also change the way you look at life, either it was a negative or a positive view. I’ve struggled with reading books before
because I got bored quickly, and because I didn't know from where to buy some.
As I said before, achieving my goal won’t happen unless I have
a structured plan. My plan to read more is that I’m going to tell many of my friends,
who enjoy spending their time reading, to make me read with them. Then, with their help, I want to
read 1 book per month by reading 10 pages from any book at night. Hopefully, that
way I can be able to finish 300 pages in 30 days. So, my goal for 2017 would be
would be to read 11 books by the end of the year. Reading books is beneficial
to me because it would help me through both of my academic and social life. For
my academic life, it would help my English language by letting me apply what I’ve
learnt through reading. Also, it would help me understand the difference
between the types of writing. In my social life, it would help me spend my time
effectively. Also, books are a trusted source of information that are not only
used for school, but for life as well. Some books might even change the way you
understand life. Reading books is such an important habit for someone to have,
and I hope to gain it.
